Reza Seirafi, aka Vexillary, is an electronic music producer whose creations—although diverse in their references—provide the listener with a unifying undercurrent that can be heard throughout. Horror, ambient, and psychedelia are ingredients that shape the dark, beat-driven compositions that ultimately take the form of Reza’s own brand of mutated drum & bass and decadent techno.
Inspired by artists such as Autechre, Coil, and Goldie, Reza has been regularly composing and producing since 2007. “I was intrigued by the mystery behind computer music and synthesis”, Reza explains about his early influences, “and was later thrilled to learn how the electronic recording process embodies a meeting ground for my polar interests in art and technology.”
Created with the help of hardware synthesizers and programmed rhythms, Vexillary’s songs feature lush textures and complex structures that aim to create moods that last long after each listen. On his creative process, Reza suggests, “I’m interested in masking the inherent abstraction of electronic music by creating conceptual songs that are constructed according to the guidelines of the stories behind them.”
Reza is currently working on new Vexillary material while laying the foundation for future live audiovisual performances. We can expect him to carry on doing music on his own terms and further develop his sound, and wherever that exploration brings us will surely remain out of the ordinary.
